Huricane Wilma went right over my fathers home.........
he walked out and looked at the clear skies through the eye of the storm
as it passed his home and then saw the wind change direction when the eye passed....
here is his latest response of all the craziness that follows a hurricane

Boy! Am I learning a lot ! The storm itself is NOTHING compared to what comes afterward.

I keep thinking about you guys in california in the event of a major earthquake. At least we have some warning here in florida with a hurricane, and time to prepare........ And that is the real lesson. If everyone here had stocked up on Food, Water, Gasoline, and other supplies like batteries, redios, ...etc. We would not be having the panics like we are having now. I think it is incredible that the Public is DEMANDING that FEMA come in and supply all their needs and wants when the real problem is they did nothing to help themselves to start with.

We are having shootings at gas stations, lots of fights and altercations, many many arrests for curfew violators, and one guy that blew himself up trying to vacuum gasoline out of his car for his lawnmower!

We had lost over 85% of the street lights at intersections - Now the Police are giving out thousands of tickets to people who will not stop at those intersections and blow right on through. Our society is really degraded to almost an animal existence.

We are doing OK. We had enough supplies and could even give away some to others that ran out. Our next door neighbor really helped us by giving us an extension cord from his emergency generator so we could keep our refrigerator running. Then we had our power come back on in 58 hours. We are lucky. There are so many that don't have it yet, and won't have until November 15 or 22. That is a long time to go without power. One man had just bought a gigantic TV before the hurricane. He dragged it out into the street, hooked it up to a generator and showed movies (DVD's) at night to his neighbors to give them a little "break " from their ordeal.

We gradually got our phone, computer, and cable TV , and then our water pressure back as the power was restored in different areas. The water pressure was significant as Florida is not very far above sea level. The sewage has to be pumped up and out to the processing plants. Too many days without power and the thousands of "holding tanks"( that most people didn't even know we had) start to back up and you have serious sewage problems. You know what I mean. We can now wash our dishes, wash our clothes, take hot showers, we don't have to boil water anymore, and now we can begin to venture out and do some shopping and get our prescriptions filled.

It is quite an experience. I can't even imagine what it is like in Peru, or Pakistan or other third world countries when something like this happens.

Well, it is Sunday morning, and we even had our paper delivered this morning!!!!!!

Things are looking up!!!

Love You Guys

Dad

the illusion of what you want
measured by the reality of what you get
a television world with suspended disbelief
its not real unless you believe it to be
honesty in a world of photoshop faces and make up
full disclosure paid back with silence
happiness can only grow in your heart
plant a seed there and let it grow
pain of rejection can take you down a deep hole
approaching complete celebration
or entire withdrawal from all
lost in world of unsatisfied people
a wrench you must feel to comprehend
power through another day to live another day
another day that will bring a mile of smile
or a grimace of doubt and blue
we'll see
