MICROCHIP
Johns Hopkins researchers have constructed a new type of microchip that can
move and isolate DNA and protein molecules. By linking the chip with analysis
equipment, a user may be able to identify medical ailments, monitor a patient's
health, or detect viruses and other biohazards before they spread.

The chips take advantage of the natural negative charge possessed by DNA or a
surface charge imposed on the molecules. "The chip has tiny wires, each about
one-fifth the diameter of a human hair, embedded in a circular pattern," Eric
Simone, a senior biomedical engineering student, said. "When it's connected to
a power source, it allows us to generate an electric field that can transport
molecules to a designated area for study."

Sand Castles when there is no surf!

They say sharks feed at night. Humans have the worst night vision of the animal kingdom. That is why Surfing at night just feels wrong I suppose.........

Surfing at Night.......it awakens a primordial urge to protect yourself. If you can't catch a swell on a full moon, then second best is to surf by the pier at night. Surfing at night will sharpen your surfing skills unquestionably.

I surfed at night when I was younger primarily so I could show off to a girl I was trying to impress. She and her friends would watch in the comfort of a dry pier as I tried to rip, slash and lacerate my way through 3-4 foot waves. Success was mine that evening........but I think the girls mostly wanted to watch me towel change in the parking lot, I seemed to always accidently drop my towel!!! (only after I had a chance to warm up my unit) They all laughed and turned their heads.......but I couldn't help showing my malevolent smile!

It was at a party next to the Huntington Beach Pier. We were all pretty blitzed and struck out with the women.....so the surf stories began to get really big. This dude we all didn't know very well was talking tough on his surfing and we called his bluff........Ever surfed at night? silence in the room........he said yah......then we said lets go then. Like the movie

His mood dropped when we all began our surfer cackle and grabbed our wetsuits and boards......We were two blocks from the pier.......it was evident he had never gone before because he was making stupid ass excuses and the blood was gone from his face. To make it worse we all wanted to get stoned before we charged out........so the bong passed around in a kind of tribal cermony.........

It amazes me the power the word "pussy" has on men of all ages.........He tried to back out of surfing with us and we all began calling him PUSSY...PUSSY as loud as we could laughing....this was his moment of truth.......So we got him a wetsuit and a stick and slapped him on the back.....lets do it!!!!! Not unlike the movie "point break" night surfing scene.............

It wasn't spectacular surf and none of us were real serious about surfing that night.......but we got a few cat calls from some babes on the pier and that was enough to make us feel like we had a successful evening.....

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in their newsletters...worth noting...

Dioxin Carcinogens - causes cancer. Especially breast cancer. Don't freeze your plastic water bottles with water as this also releases dioxin in the plastic.

Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle hospital was on a TV program explaining this health hazard. (He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital.) He was talking about dioxin and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Dioxin are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results ...without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups ,etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. Just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He said we might remember when some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

To add to this: Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food, use paper towels.
